Where I Am From

I am from music
From the apple ipod and the crazy dancing
I am from the only two story house on the block
People outside walking their dogs, playing with their children and sometimes the teenagers tagging on the fences
I am from the roses growing in the backyard
the apricot tree we would pretend to live in and be one with when we were kids
I am from homemade tortillas and big brown eyes
From my parents Andrea R. Pindea and Ronald J. Barela
I am from always late for everything and the loud Mexican family from next door
From the sunshine of the sky and your going to grow up to be big and strong
I am from Heavens gates
Who opens when it is time to leave and arrive
I am from the streets of the ghetto and the heart of Spain
carne asada and burritos
From the time my great grandparents came to this country and all they wanted was respect and happiness
The year my beloved uncle died on Christmas Day
A little brown box kept high up in the closet for no one to see but yet it manages to make it where it's visible for all to see
the embarrassing pictures of the whole family and priceless ones when we were all vulnerable and small
these are the pictures we cherish and keep forever for time to come
I am from Mexican culture
and i AM proud of that
